Generosity, fun and friendly competition were par for the course at the Sentosa Golf Club on Friday, 24 August 2018, as about 120 golfers took to the green in support of medical research and education.   Among them was the Guest of Honour, Mr Lim Boon Heng, Chairman, Temasek Holdings, who teed off at the New Tanjong Course first hole to launch the tournament.

Half way through the afternoon, the lightning alert sounded and the golfers made it back to the club house just in time.   A tropical downpour halted play for 90 minutes, but it did not dampen the golfers' spirits.   The skies cleared and they returned to the course, to complete about 14 of the 18 holes.   More supporters joined the golfers for dinner, during which an auction of donated fine wines raised almost $22,000 for the cause..

During his welcome address, Professor Tan Ser Kiat, Chairman, SingHealth Fund and Patron, SingHealth Duke-NUS Charity Golf Organising Committee, shared that the signature biennial golf tournament has raised a total of more than $800,000 in 2016 and 2018.

The money raised at this year's golf tournament and dinner will support medical research and education initiatives in four Academic Clinical Programmes (ACPs) under SingHealth Duke-NUS Academic Medical Centre: Cardiovascular Sciences, Musculoskeletal Sciences, Neuroscience and Oncology.

Research teams in these four clinical disciplines are searching for better ways to prevent, detect and treat some of Singapore's top killer diseases and disabling conditions, such as cancer, heart disease, dementia and hip fractures. Improving care for patients with these illnesses does more than save lives – it keeps families together and enables all Singaporeans to age healthily and gracefully with a sound body and mind. The next SingHealth Duke-NUS Charity Golf will take place in 2020.
