Childhood obesity is on the rise. As children's waistlines have continued to grow, so has the concern that obesity will lead to even more children developing diabetes. Prof Christopher Cheng, CEO, SKH shared that obesity in children can lead to chronic illnesses such as type 2 diabetes - currently an increasing and worrying trend. To avoid diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, sleep apnea, and other chronic illnesses, one has to start fighting obesity from young.
As part of SKH's efforts in nurturing the young on preventive health, the article noted that SKH has held four Millennia Kids Challenge (MKC) event to date and has reached out to children from 11 schools. An SKH annual signature event, the previous event held in November last year was focused on addressing childhood obesity and diabetes. In the article, Prof Cheng shared that nutrition and sufficient exercise are vital in the management of one's weight. He also emphasized that exercising as a family creates good bonding opportunities on top of benefiting a child's physical health and social well-being.
