A gift from Dr Della Lee, made in appreciation of the care provided to the late Dr Lee Seng Gee, will support a lectureship series and fellowship grants

The late Dr Lee Seng Gee was no stranger to philanthropy.   As the Chairman of Lee Foundation, he donated generously to many causes including healthcare, education and the arts, earning him the National Arts Council's Distinguished Patron of the Arts Award and the first recipient of the National Council of Social Services' Presidential Medallion for Social Philanthropy.

"Dr Lee was a man of great compassion and never forgot the underprivileged," said Professor Ong Yong Yau, Emeritus Consultant, SGH, who was one of Dr Lee's clinicians.

"He was always smiling and cheerful and had the welfare of others above his own which made him want to continue to give back to society."

After his passing in 2016, Dr Lee's wife, Dr Della Lee, is continuing his tradition of giving.   In appreciation to Prof Ong and the care team for their dedication in caring for her husband, Dr Della Lee has made a gift to Medicine Academic Clinical Programme (ACP) to establish the proposed "Lee Seng Gee Appreciation Fund for Faculty Development (Medicine)".

This Fund will support a lectureship series and Fellowship grants to further the overall professional development of clinicians from related disciplines in Medicine ACP such as endocrinology and neurology at SGH.

Under the lectureship series grants, overseas experts can be invited to Singapore to share their expertise with clinicians from relevant disciplines in SingHealth.

The Fellowship grants will complement current funding to enable more Medicine clinicians to sharpen their clinical skills by learning from the best in reputable institutions overseas, so that they can in turn contribute expertise to serve the community.

At a cheque presentation ceremony held during a memorial service for the late Dr Lee on 29 April 2017, Prof Ong expressed his gratitude and appreciation to Dr Della Lee for her thoughtful gift.

"Dr Lee Seng Gee's life was an exemplary legacy of selflessness and giving. He will always be an inspiration to us all. It is said that the greatest gift is one that comes from the heart and you have amply demonstrated this with your generosity," said Prof Ong.
