Being a Medical Social Worker is not an easy profession to be in and no job will come without its joys and challenges. One of the challenges that I face and struggle with is managing patients who are unwilling to undergo treatment despite it being available to them. Having to understand their beliefs and reasons for their decision is crucial, as is being able to respect their decision and see where they are coming from.

However, the joy of being a Medical Social Worker is knowing that you have touched someone’s life and have been able to journey through a difficult time with patients and their family members. Of course, a thank you from patients and their family members is a bonus!
