A/Prof Marcus Ong, Director, Health Services Research Centre and Senior Consultant, Emergency Medicine Dept, SGH was interviewed on his research study, which found that as the environmental PSI increases, the number of patients with respiratory illnesses in the Emergency Department also increases, especially among young people. He commented that Singapore’s healthcare system has been coping fairly well in terms of response to COVID-19 so far, but there is still a need to be careful in the event of haze, as it will bring small PM2.5 particles which may exacerbate existing lung conditions.
