Celebrating 65 years of Interventional Radiology in Singapore
The Radiological Sciences Academic Clinical Programme celebrated 65 years of Interventional Radiology (IR) in SGH, SingHealth with the IR Gala Dinner on 22 October 2024 at the Singapore Island Country Club. Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat was the event's Guest-of-Honour.
The late Dr Chow Khuen Wai introduced the Seldinger technique, a cornerstone of Interventional Radiology, to Singapore 65 years ago. His family has generously made a gift towards the Chow Khuen Wai Interventional Radiology Research Fund, the first named research fund in SGH and SingHealth dedicated to further advance IR research. We also launched the International Network of SingHealth and Partners for Interventional Radiology Education (INSPIRE) as a strategic international platform for sharing knowledge and expertise, and to promote best practices across borders to elevate patient care with IR worldwide.

Celebrating 25 years of Excellence: A Legacy of Compassionate Care
NNI recently marked its 25th anniversary with a gala celebration, honouring a quarter-century of innovation, compassion and excellence. This milestone was bittersweet, as it coincided with the passing of one of our founding leaders, Professor Lee Wei Ling just three days prior. Prof Lee played a pivotal role in shaping the institution’s mission when she took over as Director in 2004, establishing a patient-centric culture at NNI. Prof Ng Wai Hoe, Group Chief Executive Officer, SingHealth, built on her legacy when he succeeded her in 2015, continuing NNI’s commitment to patients and driving advances in clinical care, research and education.
Today, NNI serves seven hospitals in Singapore. This growth is made possible through the commitment and support of staff, community partners and donors. For the year ending 2024, philanthropic efforts have raised about $12 million for research, education and patient care programmes.
As we reflect on 25 years of progress, we honour our leaders’ enduring vision and the collective efforts of our staff, partners and donors for shaping neuroscience care for a better tomorrow.
