Singapore, 8 December 2021 – Assistant Professor Yu Na from the National Dental Centre Singapore (NDCS) has become Singapore’s first dental clinician to receive the National Medical Research Council (NMRC)’s Clinician Scientist Award (CSA) – Investigator Category.
Under the November 2020 grant call, A/Prof Yu Na was one of seven clinician scientists and researchers from SingHealth Duke-NUS who won the CSA. Her research proposal involved a clinically integrated smart digital workflow to improve the quality and efficiency in the production of removable partial dentures (RPD) for Singapore’s ageing population.
A/Prof Yu Na is a Senior Dental Surgeon at NDCS and Assistant Professor at Duke-NUS Medical School. Trained as a dentist and a prosthodontist, much of her research work is focused on digital dentistry, 3D printing of dental prosthesis, novel biomaterials and regenerative dentistry.
"I am extremely honoured to receive this award. It is an encouragement to my work and a boost to our capabilities in oral health research. It will facilitate the adoption of novel digital dentistry solutions to enhance the quality of dental care. This win is also a recognition of the work in the field of dentistry and a testament for women in science," shared A/Prof Yu Na.
Clinical Associate Professor Goh Bee Tin, Research Director and Deputy Director (Research and Education) at NDCS, who is also a mentor to Yu Na said, "My heartfelt congratulations to A/Prof Yu Na on her well-deserved success. Her research work in tooth loss and digital dentistry has the potential to impact many lives not just in Singapore but internationally. The recognition is also an encouragement for other dental clinicians and researchers and promotes an environment for excellence in oral science."
The CSA Investigator category is awarded to a clinician scientist with good track records of research work and demonstrated potential to become leaders in the field of translational and clinical research.
