"My mentor once told me that a medical technologist is like a backstage hero.  We usually know the patients by their names but they don't know us.  However, by providing timely, fast and accurate results, we have the opportunity to contribute to their diagnosis, treatment and eventually recovery from their illness.

Once, the family of a leukaemia patient came over to the haematology lab at Academia to give thanks to the lab staff.  It came as a surprise to me as I always thought that lab work was invisible to the public. Their visit reinforced the fact that we are all working for a common cause and that our work, though unseen, is still appreciated and recognised by patients and their families."
