Art therapy combined my interest in art and my passion in helping people. The ability to hold and contain the anxieties of our young patients through an expressive medium of art-making makes it one of the most fulfilling parts of my job. I recall one of my patients who shared that she wished to become an art therapist too as art therapy had helped her overcome feelings of depression and allowed her to see hope for the future. We might not be able to change the circumstances they are in, but we can empower them to pull through the difficult times and find hope and meaning in the here and now.
