Cycling is a growing in popularity amongst Singaporeans. While cycling brings about benefits like improved cardiovascular fitness and a reduction in fat and stress, it can cause injuries due to over-exertion or muscle strain. According to statistics from 2015, the number of cycling injuries has increased by 17% or 590 cases. Four common areas of pain experienced by cyclists are the neck, knee, heel, and lower back. SKH's Senior Physiotherapist, Mr Kelvin Ng, demonstrated three stretching exercises to improve joint flexibility and muscle strength which can help prevent cycling injuries.
