"I have a son who has autism, and he is teaching me every day not to succumb to societal expectations and false ceilings, but to believe in him and let him try and try again. There is more than one way to get to the final destination, and in truth, the journey is often more fulfilling and important than the outcome.

Duke-NUS is built on a culture that advocates innovation and thinking out of the box. The school gave me the opportunity to learn and rethink the way medical education should be taught, and in the process, transformed.

My fondest memories in Duke-NUS have not been about single episodes but about the entire journey, starting off as a newbie in Team-Based Learning (TBL), which seemed such an different way of learning initially, to then conducting and teaching it. From seeing how the first-year students struggled to transit to clinical learning, to developing the clinical reasoning programme for them, and of course, becoming much more involved with the students. Getting to know the students as well as the faculty more personally has been the most enriching aspect.

Duke-NUS is unique in that it has the luxury of allowing more student-faculty interaction because of the smaller class sizes as well as our curriculum and teaching styles. As a graduate medical student myself, it is most encouraging to see more young people forge their own paths that are less travelled."
