"Collaboration in clinical and translational research forwards academic medicine.  Research is a team sport and all the members of the research team are building blocks to achieve the aim of greater understanding of disease mechanism or improving patient outcomes.  Although each member focuses on one's expertise in research, collaborations enable synergy in knowledge and understanding to achieve better patient outcomes.

The passion for research must be cultivated in young clinicians from the time they are in medical school.  Mentoring is essential to nurture young minds to always look out for clinical gaps and research ideas.  Framing the research project to be feasible and achievable to young clinicians also boost their confidence to further in their research careers.

I think the toughest part – and probably the most exciting aspect of research - is that every day brings about new knowledge and new challenges. Hence, it is important to always have an inquisitive mind and be open to many ideas and solutions.  The journey of discovery never ends!"
