The 14th Singapore Health Quality Service Awards 2024 took place on January 23. Recipients were selected based on commendations from patients and colleagues for going the extra mile, and the number of compliments and service awards received.

Associate Professor Lee Lui Shiong, Head, Department of Urology, SKH, received the Superstar award. He led the launch of a system to partially automate the tracking of ureteric stents, addressing the potential for human error in manual tracking. Prof Lee highlighted the previous method of periodically trawling records to identify patients who may return late for removal as they have forgotten about it. Leaving implants in the body for too long poses risks, including difficulties in removal and potential complications such as compromised kidney function.
