SingHealth raised a record total of S$528,000 this year - the highest amount in thirteen years since it started its annual fundraising efforts for the beneficiaries of President’s Challenge. A cheque for the amount was presented to President Tony Tan at the finale event held at National Heart Centre Singapore (NHCS) on 1 October.

Funds raised this year will go to SingHealth’s four adopted beneficiaries for 2016: Children Cancer Foundation, Muscular Dystrophy Association (Singapore), Special Olympics Singapore, and St John’s Home for Elderly Persons.

Themed “Live with Passion, Care with Compassion”, SingHealth’s campaign for President’s Challenge this year centred on promoting good health through exercise. Staff partnered with a local fitness club to choreograph a unique healthcare-oriented dance – the Great SingHealth Workout – which consists of movements inspired by healthcare practices such as the 7 steps of hand washing and aspects of patient safety, all movements employed by healthcare staff in the course of their work.

“The SingHealth President’s Challenge gives us a great avenue to play our part in building a caring and compassionate society. We are gratified to see staff giving their time and energy to drive various fundraising activities to spread warmth and hope to the less privileged members in our community,” said Adjunct Professor Terrance Chua, Medical Director, National Heart Centre Singapore. NHCS is the lead institution that organised this year’s SingHealth President’s Challenge.

Activities held over the course of the year included charity bazaars, fitness classes and a movie preview. Staff from the various SingHealth institutions showcased their rendition of the Great SingHealth Workout by posting the videos on the SingHealth President’s Challenge 2016 Facebook Page in a fun competition to engage staff.

“NHCS is proud to lead the SingHealth President’s Challenge 2016. We had a fun-raising experience with the Great SingHealth Workout, geared not only at raising funds, but also promoting healthy living in the community,” said Assistant Professor Chin Chee Tang, Chairman, SingHealth President’s Challenge 2016, and Senior Consultant, Department of Cardiology, National Heart Centre Singapore.
