KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital (KKH), in partnership with SingHealth Polyclinics (SHP) and Temasek Foundation, has launched Singapore’s first community hub for child development and maternal health.

The Temasek Foundation Integrated Maternal and Child Wellness Hub at Punggol Polyclinic offers preventative care and early intervention services such as enhanced developmental screening, growth monitoring and nutrition advice for children, and lactation support and postnatal depression screening for mothers.

“Early childhood has a major role in shaping health later in life. During this period, the mother and child dyad is inseparable in its interdependency on health outcomes and well-being. An integrated approach focused on building healthy behaviours as well as preventive care is essential to deliver these priorities for child health,” shares Associate Professor Chan Yoke Hwee, Chairman, Division of Medicine, KKH.

Launched in January 2020, the Hub is part of a three-year pilot programme to develop an enhanced model of integrated care to optimise early childhood development.

“Under the programme, additional health support, early detection and intervention are integrated seamlessly into existing touchpoints at Punggol Polyclinic. We are also partnering organisations in the vicinity to strengthen the ecosystem of support for maternal and child health from pregnancy, infancy and early childhood, childhood, to adolescence and beyond,” adds Assoc Prof Chan.
