The announcement of Sengkang General Hospital (SKH) opening progressively from 18 August 2018 and Sengkang Community Hospital (SKCH) from 28 August 2018 was made by Mr Gan Kim Yong, Minister for Health, at the SKH Campus Community Health Day held last Saturday, 11 August 2018. Adding 1,400 beds to the national healthcare capacity, the opening of the hospitals will make it easier for people living in the north-east to receive quality and affordable healthcare closer to home. Residents will also have easy access to specialist services through partnerships with the National Heart Centre Singapore (NHCS), Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC) and the National Cancer Centre Singapore (NCCS), among other national specialty centres. Patients can look forward to a 'one care plan, one patient experience' and having one primary specialist who will coordinate all their treatments should they have multiple health issues, with seamless transition of care from initial diagnosis and treatment, to rehabilitative care. Other highlights include the subsidised wards (SKH and SKCH) with adjoining nursing station, central kitchen (catering to SKH and SKCH) which can deliver up to 1,500 meals per meal period, and the modern rehabilitation centre with the latest equipment to help patients recover as fully as possible.
