"I have been an audiologist for almost a decade. There have been a lot of memorable moments but my favourite is always when I witness how my patients' eyes immediately light up when they could hear for the very first time. It is definitely a life-changing experience for them and I am just happy to be part of that process.
Some of the family members of our young patients might grief when their children are newly diagnosed. I have to guide and reassure them that there are ways to resolve their children's hearing problems, and provide them with realistic expectations.
I have a lovely young patient with cochlear implant who would always say, 'I love you, Auntie Pia' before she leaves the centre, and it makes me feel like I'm part of her family."
