Singapore, 13 April 2017 – SingHealth today announced key leadership changes which will take effect from 1 May 2017.
Professor Ang Chong Lye, Chief Executive Officer of Singapore General Hospital (SGH) since 2008, will pass the leadership baton to Professor Kenneth Kwek, currently Deputy Chief Executive Officer, SGH and Chief Executive Officer of KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital (KKH).
Professor Kwek will relinquish his role as CEO of KKH and hand over the reins to Professor Alex Sia who is currently Chairman, Medical Board of KKH. Associate Professor Ng Kee Chong will be appointed as the new Chairman, Medical Board of KKH.

Leadership Succession at Singapore General Hospital
During his nine-year tenure as CEO of SGH, Professor Ang Chong Lye made his mark as a well-respected and visionary clinician-leader who transformed the hospital’s clinical services, research and education. A champion of health informatics and analytics, Professor Ang spearheaded numerous IT initiatives to enhance the hospital’s integration, safety and operational efficiency.
From his early days as an ophthalmologist at Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC) to his tenure as Medical Director of SNEC, followed by appointment as CEO of SGH in 2008, Professor Ang has upheld a continuous focus on patient care delivery and service innovation.
Professor Ang will relinquish his position as CEO of SGH on 1 May 2017. He continues to hold the appointment of Deputy Group Chief Executive Officer (Clinical Services and Informatics) at SingHealth.
Succeeding Professor Ang as CEO of SGH is Professor Kenneth Kwek, an experienced clinician-leader who inspires many with his humility and strong commitment to patient care. Having built his career over the course of three decades at KKH, Professor Kwek has held several key leadership positions, including Chairman, Medical Board of KKH, Duke-NUS Senior Associate Dean, KKH Campus, and CEO of KKH.
Under his astute leadership, KKH strengthened its position as the region’s top women’s and children’s hospital and received numerous accolades for quality care and innovation.
In his new role as CEO of SGH, Professor Kwek will build on the strong foundation and steer SGH’s infrastructure and care delivery transformation to ensure the flagship hospital is future-ready and achieves best-in-class healthcare practices.
Leadership Succession at KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital
Professor Alex Sia will succeed Professor Kwek as CEO of KKH. As Chairman, Medical Board of KKH since 2012, he steered the hospital to lead in many areas of healthcare for women and children.
In addition to serving as Chairman, Medical Board of KKH, Professor Sia served as Deputy Group Chairman, Medical Board for SingHealth, championing excellence in clinical service, teaching and research across the cluster. He will relinquish this role on 1 May 2017 as he takes up the mantle as CEO of KKH.
In his new role as CEO of KKH, Professor Sia will further advance the hospital’s mission as the top tertiary referral centre for women and children. He will also strengthen the hospital’s academic medicine culture by deepening endeavours in research and education to improve patient care.
Succeeding Professor Sia as the new Chairman, Medical Board of KKH, is Associate Professor Ng Kee Chong who is currently Chairman, Division of Medicine of KKH.
