26 June 2015, Singapore: To mark the nation’s big 50, KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital (KKH) has lined up a slew of activities to celebrate the momentous occasion. One of the highlights is the “Kids Explore@KKH” event where 100 young explorers - children aged six to 12 spent a morning role-playing healthcare professionals from various specialties at KKH. The explorers visited facilities at KKH including an operating theatre where they donned medical scrubs and tried their hand at activities commonly performed by surgical teams; as well as the hospital’s Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Centre where they performed an ear, nose and throat examination. The children also gathered experiences in the areas of orthopaedics, rehabilitation, sports medicine, child life services, and in the simulation training centre (please click here to view the photographs). Through the hands-on activities, the young explorers learnt about the various healthcare professions, as well as picked up interesting health information.

To bring the nation together in celebration, KKH will be organising a variety of activities which includes a public forum on parenthood, a mass latch on exercise to commemorate World Breastfeeding Week, as well as a special commemorative book that features individuals whose lives have interlinked with KKH’s.

“Being the birthplace of generations of Singaporeans, we are especially thrilled to be part of the nationwide celebrations. We certainly want members of the public to come and join us in these activities as we count down to National Day in August. These Jubilee festivities are our way of saying thanks to long-standing advocates of the hospital,” said Ms Audrey Lau, Director, Corporate Development Division, KKH.
