Employees from Four Seasons Hotel Singapore helping out at last year’s Run For Hope

Every year, staff at the Four Seasons Hotel Singapore step up and out to raise awareness and funds for cancer research through Run For Hope

Karene Lim began volunteering at Run For Hope when she was a polytechnic student. Now, more than 10 years later, her enthusiasm and commitment towards this cause are just as strong.

“I have seen the impact of cancer on the lives of people close to me so I want to be able to contribute, even in this minuscule way, towards finding a cure for it,” explains Ms Lim.

A Learning Manager at the Four Seasons Hotel Singapore, Ms Lim’s passion for supporting cancer research is matched by her employer. The hotel group has organised Run For Hope every year since it started in 1993. Since 2008, Four Seasons has partnered NCCS to raise awareness and support for the Centre’s critical, life-saving research with the hope of making more cancer survivors.

Run For Hope is our concerted effort to make a difference and contribute to the larger community in a way that resonates across our properties. The fight against cancer was first championed by our founder and chairman Mr Isadore Sharp and Four Seasons Hotel Singapore is very glad to be part of this meaningful effort.  Volunteering my support to Run for Hope is my way of giving back to the community and to make a difference to others in need,” says, Mr John Wu, Regional Director of Engineering, Four Seasons Hotel.

Mr Sharp lost his son, Christopher, to melanoma, a form of skin cancer in 1974. In memory of him, Mr Sharp spearheaded a worldwide programme that established annual runs that raises funds for cancer research in cities where Four Seasons’ Hotels and Resorts are located.

Staff from the Four Seasons Hotel Singapore and NCCS collaborate closely throughout the year-long planning for the event– from operations, securing sponsorships and partnerships, to raising awareness and coordinating the run. Everyone involved looks forward to the annual event and for some, it is particularly poignant and meaningful.

Run For Hope is the only charity run in Singapore that supports cancer research and it is so dear to my heart because I lost my best friend to cancer two years ago,” says Ms Sherona Shng, Hotel Manager. “Through the organising of Run For Hope, I hope we can continue to build awareness about the need to  lead a healthier lifestyle to prevent cancer and garner more support from the community towards cancer research.”
