Zumba, pole-dancing, and bungee dance are some examples of dance exercises that are increasingly gaining popularity. To prevent injuries from dance exercises, aerobic and strength training are as important as flexibility training. SKH Senior Physiotherapist Sharon Wang shared some pre-disposing factors associated with dance injuries and findings from a recent local survey which reported that the most common injuries involve the foot and ankle (53.8%), knee (48.9%) and back (34.1%). She also shared what could be done to prevent injuries during dance and demonstrated exercises that encourage muscular strength and endurance, flexibility, and cardio-respiratory endurance.
