"Growing up, I aspired to become a veterinarian. That aspiration changed once I realised that loving animals and being able to treat their injuries were two very different things.   However, I still wanted to help others in any way I could.  Just after 'A' Levels, I came across the field of orthoptics. I did some research and shadowed an orthoptist in a hospital. From then on I knew I wanted to become an orthoptist, and I did.   Being able to help others do the things they love again – which could be as simple as sewing, watching TV, or reading the papers – is one of the most rewarding parts of my career."
