"Deafness is a socially isolating disease; the patient is alone in his/her silence.  At the same time, the parents of the deaf children are devastated at not being able to communicate with their children, to be able to tell them that they love them.  That sort of family separation is really heartbreaking.  So to be able to restore hearing to children gives great meaning to the work I do."
