Held on the first Saturday of the year, close to 300 staff and their family members turned up for the get-together, themed “A Day to be Colourful” – and colourful it was with games, food and prizes aplenty.

Oh how we have missed in-person events! It is no wonder after a three-year hiatus, the NHCS Family Day-cum-New Year Party stirred much excitement amongst staff when it was announced, and came back with a colourful bang for a great start of 2023!
Held on the first Saturday of the year, close to 300 staff and their family members turned up for the get-together, themed “A Day to be Colourful” – and colourful it was with games, food and prizes aplenty.
“We wanted a theme that appeals to families hence we focused a lot on keeping the children entertained and making sure the families enjoyed their time together at the various activities. The game stations and balloon decor appealed to both the young and old crowds, making the party very lively. It was heartwarming to see everyone bonding and enjoying the day with colleagues as well as with their families,” explained Tan Chern Wey from Research Admin & Development Office (RADO) who was part of the organising committee.
Happy Children = Happy Parents
Judging by the laughter and happy glee heard throughout the day, clearly the children seemed to have enjoyed the most at the fun-packed party. From bouncy castles, inflatable games, ‘walking’ animal balloons, balloon sculptures, caricature, finger painting, to shrink art – there was something for everyone, adults included as some were even spotted at the bouncy castle! Indeed, there lives a child in every adult.
“My girls were so excited playing at the inflatables that they forgoed their ice cream! That’s a first!” said Belinda Lim, Assistant Manager from Corporate Development. Needless to say, parents had a great bonding time with their children. Check out the photos below to see for yourselves!
Colleagues Like Family
Fellow colleagues who ‘jio-ed’ (dialect meaning ‘invite’) one another to join the event had an awesome time bonding over the wide selection of food - multiple buffet spreads (there were three caterers!), live food stations including the highly raved bubble tea, to popcorn and ice-cream, everyone was spoilt for choice.
“When we heard staff singing praises of the food, we were so relieved! The committee spared no effort in sourcing from multiple caterers so that we could get a good spread and variety to keep everyone’s bellies happy. We were really caught by surprise when the food ran out quickly!” shared committee member Ong Seow Wei, Manager from Vascular Laboratory.
Partying on familiar grounds
“Some staff were wondering why we held the event in NHCS. We considered several factors such as the economy that was still recovering post-pandemic and limited suitable venues for mass gatherings, it seemed most beneficial to staff if we pooled resources to combine family day and new year party, and where better than to hold it at our workplace? In this way, more can be done in terms of better quality of food and attractive lucky draw prizes – the highlight of the party!” added committee member Annie Lee, Research Fellow from National Heart Research Institute Singapore (NHRIS).
It goes without saying that the event was a huge success. Big thanks to the organising committee for the ‘colourful’, enjoyable afternoon and not forgetting all the lucky draw winners – congratulations!
