Looking for reasons to put on your running shoes? Zul from the organizing committee tells you why you should be part of the SingHealth Digital Relay.

This is roughly the distance of the whole stretch of Sentosa Gateway. It will be over in a flash. Using a running app to map the route, we estimate that each runner will take around 7 minutes to cover the distance.

You will be running in pairs, so grab a colleague to create some fond memories with.

The relay is one of the fundraising initiatives for President’s Challenge 2021. Colleagues and friends can support your running endeavor by contributing through the Giving.sg page https://www.giving.sg/campaigns/singhealth-sgh . Proceeds will help these 5 beneficiaries: SingHealth Fund (CGH HomeCare Assist),  South Central Community Family Service CentreYong-En Care Centre,  Metta Welfare Association and Rainbow Centre.

Flag-off is at 10am on 25 September (Saturday) at SGH Museum. We expect the last pair to arrive at SingHealth Tower at 10.30am on 26 September (Sunday). Join us then to cheer on representatives from all SingHealth institutions who will run up to Level 12 of SingHealth Tower to wrap up the Relay.

Every pair of runners will be accompanied by a safety marshal on bicycle who will carry an AED machine and other first aid items. If you get cramps, our safety cyclist will be by your side in a jiffy to give you a nice leg massage!

SGH will start off the run in the morning at SGH Museum before handing the ‘baton’ over to runners from other SingHealth institutions in the late morning at Bukit Merah Polyclinic. At about 2am at the Helix Bridge, the ‘baton’ will be handed over to SGH runners. Our staff will run loops around the Marina Bay Sands area till 6 am when SGH passes the ‘baton’ over to other SingHealth institutions at the Singapore Cricket Club.

For safety reasons, those running from 1am to 9.30am will do a loop circuit around Marina Bay and the Kallang Sports Hub, which is well-lit. For night birds, here’s a rare opportunity to run in the cool evening breeze and take in the scenic Marina Bay view at the same time.

That is the total distance of the Relay. The route is made up of 200 legs - from SGH Campus at Outram up north to Bright Vision Hospital then to the east past Changi General Hospital followed by running along East Coast Park Connector before completing a full circle back to SingHealth Tower at Outram.

Safety comes first. So we had to take out some scenic routes such as Labrador Park when we saw that the roads were too narrow, and Marina Bay Cruise Centre which has too many heavy duty vehicles along the narrow road close to the pedestrian pathway.

We canned the route along the Marina Bay Cruise Centre because of the many heavy vehicles.

The SingHealth Digital Relay is on 25 and 26 September 2021. A Singapore Book of Records’ attempt, the relay is one of the fundraising initiatives for President’s Challenge 2021.
