Chronic Kidney Disease in Singapore: Stats and Prevention Tips

Chronic kidney disease can lead to kidney failure if left untreated.

High blood pressure (hypertension) and diabetes are the two most common causes of chronic kidney disease. In Singapore, about 60 per cent of new end-stage renal disease cases are due to diabetes.

How to reduce your risk for chronic kidney disease:

  • Eat fruit, vegetables, grains and lean meat. Cut down on salt and fat.
  • Drink lots of water, and cut down on soft and alcoholic drinks.
  • Keep fit: Exercise at least five times a week and do not smoke.
  • Have regular health check-ups.
