Overview

Smoking is one of the leading causes of health issues, including serious diseases like heart and lung diseases and cancers of various types. Smoking can not only cause harm to the smoker but also their loved ones and the people around them.

Many people are grappling with the difficulty involved in quitting smoking. This is because quitting smoking not only entails weaning off the highly addictive substance nicotine, but also requires lifestyle changes, many of which they have been engaging in for many decades. Some are also discouraged by their previous failed attempts and are no longer motivated after failure.

In this talk, we will explore the following about smoking cessation:

  1. Why do people smoke and why is smoking so addictive?
  2. What are the types of smokers and how do they differ?
  3. Why is it important to quit smoking regardless of age and presence of other conditions?
  4. How do we maintain the motivation to quit smoking even after failure?
  5. How do we create a personalized plan for each smoker to maximize the chances of quitting?
  6. What are the resources and medications available for me to quit smoking?
  7. How can I better support my loved one who is currently in the process of quitting smoking?
