Overview

Congenital heart disease (CHD) is a heart problem present at birth, affecting about 1 in 100 babies. It occurs when the heart doesn’t form properly during pregnancy, leading to conditions like holes in the heart or more complex defects. Modern treatments ranging from minimally invasive procedures to advanced surgeries have greatly improved outcomes for patients with CHD.

Join us as Dr Yap shares his knowledge and advice on understanding these conditions and treatment options from his perspective as a surgeon!

Cinical Assistant Professor Yap Kok Hooi is a Consultant from Department of Cardiothoracic Sugery at National Heart Centre Singapore (NHCS) and KK Women's and Children's Hospital (KKH).

He graduated from Dundee Medical School, United Kingdom in 2009, and subsequently completed his Foundation Year and Core Surgical Training in the UK. He then joined the Cardiothoracic Surgical Residency Training Programme at National Heart Centre Singapore. Along his clinical career, he also successfully obtained MSc Degree with Cardiff University, UK and has published numerous academic publications.

Clin Asst Prof Yap has particular interests in cardiothoracic surgical research and congenital heart surgery.
