How Does The Programme Work?
Pre-DICTED aims to reduce your risk of developing diabetes
The programme is designed to engage, motivate and equip you with the necessary knowledge and skills to make lifestyle modifications (e.g. healthy eating and regular physical activity) so as to
reduce your risk of developing diabetes. Your goals will be to achieve a weight loss of ≥ 5% of your baseline weight and to exercise at least 150 minutes a week.
Monitor your pre-diabetes for 3 years
The programme will also provide regular monitoring of your pre-diabetic condition. You will receive 6-monthly diabetes screening for a period of 3 years. At the start of the programme, you will be assigned to either the standard care group or the treatment group. You will have an equal chance of being assigned to either group.
Standard care group vs Treatment care group
If assigned to the
standard care group, you will receive
counselling on lifestyle modifications from your primary care providers.
If assigned to the treatment group, you will attend group sessions to learn healthy eating habits, add physical activities to your lifestyle, and stay motivated to be healthy.
Incentives will be given to motivate you to reach your weight loss and exercise goals. In addition, metformin may be added on after 6 months of lifestyle modifications if you are deemed to have very high risk of developing diabetes.
