People with diabetes may face various health hazards during Hajj (pilgrimage), including the "killer triad" – hypoglycemia, foot injury and infections. Many precautions are necessary for the prevention and treatment of possible serious complications. Dr Sueziani Zainudin, Consultant, Department of Endocrinology, SKH, contributed an article that addresses the importance of risk assessment, medication adjustments, proper clinical assessment, vaccinations and pre-travel consultation and education before one leaves for Hajj.
