• Nurses distribute specially designed water bottles to help those with chronic diseases

Singapore, 16 February 2015 - More than 140 nurse volunteers from SingHealth brought festive cheer to needy elderly residents living in Kreta Ayer at a reunion dinner held this evening. Held at the Kreta Ayer Community Centre, the dinner was attended by more than 200 elderly residents together with Dr Lily Neo, Advisor to Tanjong Pagar GRC Grassroots Organisations.

Planning and preparatory work for the reunion dinner by nurse volunteers from SingHealth institutions such as Singapore General Hospital, KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital and National Heart Centre Singapore started since October last year.

To help elderly residents who suffer from chronic diseases such as kidney failure with their fluid intake, the nurse volunteers gave each of them a water bottle with metric markings. Designed by nurses from the Singapore General Hospital, the light-weight bottle which comes with a grip handle feature can be used at home or when they are outdoors to help the elderly monitor their fluid intake.

In addition to the custom-made water bottles, the nurse volunteers also distributed goody bags containing essential food items and put up singing and dance performances for the elderly residents.
