"Every patient has a story to tell. Through their stories, I get to know them as individuals.   I once cared for a renal patient who was married with two school-going children.  Her husband was an introvert who did not express himself very well but I could tell that he was very worried for her.

I would spend time with the family whenever they visited her.  Even though I didn't say much, he felt that I was there for them and that I cared.   It was heartbreaking when the patient passed on.  It made me realise how important it was to be present with our patients and their loved ones. It's the little things that we do that count and can touch their lives."
