- Project aims to heighten awareness of the importance of oral health and raise at least $52,000 for the NDCS Tooth Fairy Fund
- 25 students from NYP's School of Design & Media conceptualised and painted 13 tooth-shaped stools for a good cause
Singapore, 25 August 2021 – The National Dental Centre Singapore (NDCS) and Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) have partnered for a design project to raise awareness of oral health and fundraise at least $52,000. The collaboration, which commenced in April this year, moves into the fundraising phase today. All proceeds will go to the NDCS Tooth Fairy Fund to support needy patients requiring dental treatment, as well as oral health research and education.
As part of their Visual Branding and Identity Specialisation module spanning 18 weeks, 25 Diploma in Visual Communication students from NYP's School of Design & Media conceptualised 13 designs on fibreglass tooth-shaped stools. Each design tells a story about oral health from the students' perspective, and how they wish to showcase its importance. The students have also developed a social media marketing plan to raise awareness of the NDCS Tooth Fairy Fund and drive donations for the stools they have designed and painted.
Launched on charity portal Giving.sg, each stool targets to raise a minimum of $4,000 and members of the public are invited to make a donation in support of the stool design they prefer. Each stool that hits or exceeds its fundraising target will be given to the highest donor as a token of appreciation.
"Working with the National Dental Centre Singapore on this meaningful initiative has been very rewarding for our students. This partnership not only added to our students' bank of real-world experiences beyond the classroom, but it also gave them an opportunity to make use of their creativity and visual communication skills for a good cause," said Albert Lim, Director, School of Design & Media, Nanyang Polytechnic.
"We are excited to join hands with Nanyang Polytechnic, and grateful to have the students lend their creative touch to this fundraising initiative. Through this partnership, we are able to deconstruct and view the meaning of oral health through an artistic lens, and we hope that the students' beautiful creations will bring a smile to our donors as well," said Clinical Associate Professor Poon Choy Yoke, Director, National Dental Centre Singapore.
