NNI studied 47,572 patients who were diagnosed with COVID-19 in Singapore between 19 March and 19 July 2020. They found that 90 patients were identified with neurological symptoms. Of the 90, 39 (0.08%) were deemed related to COVID-19. A/Prof Umapathi Thirgnanam, Senior Consultant, Department of Neurology, NNI and senior author of the study explained that the relatively low number of neurological disorders was probably due to the outbreak here involving largely young healthy men with mild or asymptomatic COVID-19. Dr Jasmine Koh, Consultant, Department of Neurology, NNI and first author of the study shared that cerebrovascular disorders were the most common neurological conditions related to COVID-19, including acute ischaemic stroke, TIA, cerebral venous thrombosis and intracerebral haemorrhage.
