Caring for Yourself

Dedicated to our Healthcare Heroes!

Maintain good general health

In the defence against pandemics such as COVID-19, it is vitally important for healthcare workers to build-up and maintain their physical health. Good health shores up immunity and helps to minimise stress.

Cleanliness (which is next to Godliness)

Have good personal hygiene

  • Wash your hands
  • Shower or bathe often
  • Don’t share food or cutlery
  • Cover up if coughing or sneezing
  • Use tissue paper, don’t share handkerchiefs

Handwashing

As healthcare workers, it is important to wash your hands before and after patient care or procedures such as

  • Before food preparation
  • Before and after eating
  • After using the washroom
  • Before touching your face
  • Can you think of other situations?

Exercise (Move it! You'll love it!)

Exercise not only improves your fitness but it also releases stress.

Eat to live

Eat a nutritious and balanced diet.

Appropriate amounts from all food groups will give you the necessary nutrients.

Fruits and vegetables are especially important in strengthening immunity.

Of course, the occasional treat, to feed the inner self.

Drink up

Keep yourself well hydrated.

At least 6-8 glasses (also found in juice & soups) of water should do it.

Don’t drink too many caffeinated drinks and advisably no alcoholic drinks.

Rest and relax

You’ve been working hard in hospital and your body and mind need to rest and recharge. Make sure you get enough sleep and give yourself sufficient time and opportunities to relax!

If you are sick...

If you are feeling unwell or if you have a fever:

  • Mask up
  • Report to the staff clinic
  • Recuperate at home until you’re better

Here’s wishing you the best of health!
